mirates Old Trafford, home of Lancashire County Cricket Club, were this week presented with the ‘Project of the Year’ award at The Stadium Business Awards 2014. The awards were held at the RAF Museum, London, in front of an audience of more than 300 key industry executives.

Emirates Old Trafford’s Project of the Year award was received for the renovation of the Pavilion, commenting on their win the judging panel said: “The project represents an excellent example of the expansion and development of a major international sporting facility whilst preserving the character and appearance of a historic building”.

Now in their fifth year, The Stadium Business Awards recognise leadership, innovation and achievement in the delivery, operation and management of sports facilities globally. Not only are the venue and event of the year acknowledged but also individuals from behind the scenes and successful rising stars within the industry.

LCCC Chief Executive Daniel Gidney said: “To be presented with the Project of the Year award in competition with such esteemed venues globally also vying for the award is a truly proud moment. The stadium has been transformed over the last four years and we are now seeing the benefits, not only in the increase in demand but also the increase in recognition within the sector”.

Daniel adds: “We have recently received awards locally, Marketing Manchester’s Business Tourism award and nationally, VisitEngland’s Gold award for Excellence in Tourism. To be the recipient of an award in the International market is making a statement that Emirates Old Trafford is now firmly established as an internationally recognised sports and business venue of world repute”.

The 2014 awards ceremony was hosted during TheStadiumBusiness Summit 2014 – the world’s leading meeting of stadium sports businesses, teams, clubs and operators – and 18 winners were announced in key categories.
